The Health Section of Tibet Charity observed World Diabetes Day in collaboration with Tibetan Settlement Office, McLeod Ganj on 14th November 2016.

The day was observed by organizing free screening of the public in Mcleod Ganj and Norbu Lingka for diabetes and hypertension. The whole idea behind organizing such a program is to create public awareness vis-a-vis the disease which is slowly affecting more and more Tibetans and Indians.

In total, 207 people were screened out of which 18 people were found to be having high sugar level and 45 people were found out to be high blood pressure.

Out of the 18 people who were diagnosed with sugar level, 12 were aware of their situation and on medication. 6 were freshly detected cases and were advised to go for further checkup and seek medical advise.

Out of the 45 people who were diagnosed with high blood pressure, 19 knew about their situation and were under medication. 5 people were aware of their situation but were not under any medication. 19 people were freshly detected cases and they were advised to seek further medical advice.

We are grateful to Tibetan Settlement Office for kindly working with us to fight this disease in the community. We also wish to thank Tibet Charity for supporting our Health Care Section for the past many years without whose support, it would have been impossible for us to carry out socially beneficial health and community services.
