  • Education Section  Language Classes and Scholarships
  • HealthCare Section  Clinic, homecare nurses, blood donations
  • Clinic For Dogs Section  Clinic, rabies vaccination, dog population control
  • Social Development Section  Sponsorships, financial assistance

In order to continue our work, we are in need of, and searching for, corporate/major sponsors for each of our sections/projects.

HEALTHCARE SECTION – SUMMARY

The health care system for Tibetans is one area where changes are very much needed, and where the system is currently in a state of flux. However, when a component of society as fundamental as health is affected, steps must be taken to minimize harm and encourage rapid change that will benefit the people. For improvements to occur, it is imperative that the medical and public health communities, such as Tibet Charity, recognize the extent of this problem and find solutions that will impact not only Tibetans, but also other communities and nations who are facing some of the very same problems

Health Care Section – Clinic, homecare nurses, emergency care and blood donations

The activities of the healthcare section of Tibet Charity can be broadly categorized under four sub-heads:

  1. Free Clinic and Health awareness programs
  2. Home Nursing Program
  3. Emergency Medical Fund
  4. Blood Donation Club

Patients are provided basic hygiene assistance and medical services at the main building of Tibet Charity.

HEALTHCARE CLINIC

Tibet Charity maintains a permanent clinic at its main building in McLeod Ganj. Treatment is available free of charge. Only homeopathic medicines are offered as treatment. Our clinic caters mainly to Tibetan elders and local Indians in the area who are not fit enough to travel down to the Delek Hospital or cannot afford the medical costs. Cases needing specific medical expertise are referred to registered doctors in the area. HOME NURSES

Home Nurses support the elderly in their homes; they are, however, more like caregivers than nurses. The elderly are often single or living alone without family and have no one to care for them. They are living in extreme poverty. The home nurses do everything for them. They clean, wash, go shopping, take them to the hospital, take them out for a walk, make sure they take their medication and cook for them, if needed. In the course of their work, the nurses’ often come across other elderly people who also need help.

Currently, our nurses are helping 27 families, out of which 10 need help every day. These 10 households have been divided between 4 nurses. Home nurses are committed to providing the best quality help they can, which is why they are always learning new skills. From time to time, these home nurses receive in-service trainings on handling the sick and elders from experts across the globe.

The requirement and importance of these home nurses are likely to grow with more and more younger generation Tibetans migrating to the west leaving these elders behind.

1 Salary of the Health Coordinator 20,000 1 244,000

EMERGENCY MEDICAL FUND

Tibet Charity is providing medical funds for poor and sick patients to undergo necessary treatments at various hospitals. It becomes a matter of great concern when we see someone having to lose one’s precious life due to lack of few thousand rupees.

Many newcomers from Tibet after reaching here face great many health related problems owing to lack of proper medical care back in Tibet. Many catch illnesses on their treacherous journey from Tibet to India across the Himalayas. So when they reach here they frequently fall ill and face shortage of financial resources to get proper checkups and right kind of treatments. Emergency Medical Fund of Tibet Charity comes to their aid in getting proper checkups and treatments.

We are very grateful to Save Tibet Austria in helping us with funds to start the program and we thank Grainnes d’Avenir France for making further contributions.

Donation of any amount, probably Rs. 300,000 per year is requested for, so that the patients who cannot afford to pay for their medical expenses can be supported.

BLOOD DONATION PROGRAM

Tibet Charity has come up with a unique initiative to solve a major problem faced by patients and doctors in Mcleodganj, Dharamsala. Prior to the formation of this Club, which now has more than 250 willing donors as members, both patients and doctors faced tough time finding the right blood for patients needing immediate blood transfusion. They needed to make frantic phone calls or put up posters requesting people with right blood group to come forward and donate blood. Sometimes such effort bore no fruit, jeopardizing the life of the patient.

But now because of this Club, all people needed to do is to call the Health Section of Tibet Charity and they arrange the right donor. More than 150 patients have reaped the benefit of this club thereby saving precious human lives and time.

But we need to provide energy drinks and sometimes food to such donors at the end of the donation to assist with their recovery after blood is withdrawn from them. Any assistance here will be a big help.

Particulars Cost Per Unit Quantity Annual Req.
1 Health drinks for the donors after donation 200 30 donors 6,000
2 Transportation for the donors to the hospitals 500 30 donors 15,000
3 Blood Tests of the donors before transfusion 1,000 30 donors 30,000
Total Annual Budget Requirement 51,000

ADMINISTRATION/OPERATION

Financial efficiency matters. A charity’s ability to keep its fundraising and other overhead expenses reasonable is what determines how much of your contribution will be available to fund the charitable programs you are intending to support with your donations. Tibet Charity encourages our donors to consider a charity’s financial efficiency along with other, qualitative factors, when making their giving decisions.

Some non-profit organizations receive large donations of non-cash goods and services, which they are responsible for valuing. The dollar value a charity assigns to its non-cash donations is then mixed together with its cash revenue and expenses in its financial reporting. This often has the effect of making the nonprofit appear to be larger and operating more efficiently than it actually is. Such inconsistencies in the reporting make it difficult to compare the financial efficiency of different non-profit organizations.

With Tibet Charity, you will find a charity you can support that has operating overhead of 25% or less. That means we spend 80 cents or more of every dollar you send on program activities and just 20 cents, or less, is spent on fund raising and administrative costs. Only a handful of charities meet this standard for efficiency. When you make a general donation we will spend the money where it is most urgently needed. Be assured that all the money you give will go straight to the people you want to help because none of the private donations made to Tibet Charity are spent on administration.
