VOLUNTEERING – TEACHERS

  1. TCEC considers applications from qualified & experienced teachers throughout the year and also from newly qualified teachers wishing to gain experience.
  2. We require teachers for teaching English As A Foreign Language (EFL/ESOL).
  3. We appreciate it when teachers stay for a whole term because it gives students continuity and a stable learning environment but we also realize that this is a big commitment. Though our preference is for those teachers who can stay for one whole session but sometimes we do take 2 teachers at the most to cover one class for one academic session. So if you can not commit yourself for one full session, please mention your intended duration of stay (no less than one month) with precise dates so that we can find someone else to cover the remaining period. Many teachers in the past have had a very rewarding experience and have chosen to extend their stay while some have volunteered on more than one occasion.
  4. We need teachers for our Elementary, Pre-Intermediate and Intermediate classes.
  5. We follow New English File books published by Oxford publications as textbooks for our classes.
  6. We don’t provide any financial return of any kind for the voluntary service provided by our volunteers though we do serve lunch and break time tea during the working days. We can help the volunteers to find rooms at reasonable rate.
  7. We organise two full tours to places outside Dharamsala during a single academic session. One to Tibetan settlements and monasteries in Bir and Chauntra. The second tour is to Rock Temple at Masroor and Kangra Fort.
  8. We will organise one day picnic for the volunteers with the staff and the students of Tibet Charity.
  9. We will provide basic medical assistance free of cost and in case of sickness of more serious nature, we provide full assistance in terms of service to get the right treatment.
  10. The strength of each class may vary from 7 to 20. Though most students will be Tibetan, you may also find few students from South East Asian or Central Asian countries. The age of the students may be between 18 to 40.
  11. Please note: the school closes from the 1st of December to 1st of March and there are 2 academic sessions. You can refer to our online calendar to see when the openings are for teachers in the upcoming semesters.
