My name is Andrea. I’m an ESL teacher from the U.S. This is my fourth year teaching English to students from around the world. I taught for two years in Spain, one year in Thailand and one year in Indonesia. I truly enjoy working with students and most recently I was given an amazing opportunity to teach at Tibet Charity. I met many students from many different places and I was able to learn about their beautiful cultures, traditions and beliefs. Thanks to the caring staff and the wonderful students, my time in India was incredible!
I taught Intermediate English at Tibet Charity for over 2 months and really enjoyed the experience. The students are very kind and thoughtful, eager to learn English, enthusiastic about their school work, and extremely appreciative of your efforts as a teacher. They love to talk with the teachers to get to know them, and they have a great sense of humor. We laughed a lot! All in all, they were a delight to have in my classroom! The school staff is very helpful with anything the teachers need, both in the classroom and outside in daily life at Tibet Charity. The location in the Himalayas is absolutely beautiful and there are many things to do in the area…yoga, Buddhist courses, hiking, and great cafes and restaurants to meet up with your students and friends. It was a wonderful teaching experience!
Hi everyone. My name is Catherine and I’m an ESL teacher from the US. I have taught in Thailand as well as in India. I was so happy to have the opportunity to teach English at Tibet Charity. The program at TC is well-organized and run very effectively. The students are enthusiastic and eager to help each other learn. Watching their growth over the semester was so rewarding to me as a teacher. I learned a lot from this diverse group of students. And all of the staff at TC are welcoming and make you feel completely at home. I will be back!
‘My name is Gill Winter from New Zealand. I have volunteered as a teacher four times at Tibet Charity (so far). Here are some very good reasons to keep coming back.
The students: They are intelligent, responsive, interesting and keen to learn. I can guarantee that you will find the students at Tibet Charity some of the most likeable that you have taught.
The organisation: Tibet Charity is well run, the accommodation offered is comfortable, the free lunches are delicious and the staff are friendly and helpful.
The environment: McLeod Ganj is a unique place with some very special experiences on offer, particularly the chance to hear His Holiness the Dalai Lama teaching. The mountain scenery is spectacular and the climate is less extreme than in other parts of India. There are opportunities for hiking, yoga, meditation, learning Buddha dharma and the Tibetan language. The cost of living is reasonable.
If you decide to volunteer as a teacher at Tibet Charity, please commit yourself to stay for the full term. Tibet Charity is the only NGO in McLeod Ganj which offers this continuity of teaching over a three month term, and it’s one of the reasons why students sign up for the courses.’
